This is part of Marwan Al Shehhi's boarding pass as it is displayed in a museum (I haven't been able to find out which museum although it most likely is the National 911 Memorial and Museum). It was supposedly found badly burnt in the rubble at Ground Zero.
Well, the above is actually the part of the boarding pass that the airline agent withholds at the gate. The passenger is left with a small rectangular piece, a stub, which is attached at the one end of the boarding pass and which contains a summary of the trip. It looks like this:
Sometimes the passenger gets to keep the boarding pass in its entirety, like so:
More often than not however, he/she is only given the truncated stub.
That the airline gets to keep the main body of the boarding pass is also the reason why those belonging to the alleged hijackers of Flight 93 are intact:
The mere fact that the truncated stub is missing from the boarding pass as it was supposedly found at Ground Zero, implies that Al Shehhi was given it at the gate right before boarding and had it on him on the plane, while the airline agent tore away the main body and kept it for their records.
Then someone (who??) went and got the part that was kept by the airline, singed it and presented it as the boarding pass that Al Shehhi would have had with him on the flight.
Note that it wasn't used as evidence in the Moussaoui trial as the defence would have trashed it in no more than seconds.
